Music Team Track of the Week: Lapdance from Asia

Our favourite track for this week is the incredibly chill Lapdance from Asia by Cosha & Shygirl, released January 22nd.

Cosha (formerly known as Bonzai) is an Irish R&B singer and producer who released her debut album RIP Bonzai in 2018. She’s been back with some tracks out last year and now this collab comes as her first release of 2021. She’s worked with some crazy names like Mura Masa and Rostam and has toured with Flume. In fact, Mura Masa is listed as a co-writer on this track!

Shygirl is a rapper, singer, DJ, and head of the NUXXE record label (who have been given attention as part of Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty shows). She makes music with a range of influences like grime, R&B, electronica and pop, and her song ‘Slime’ from October last year was one of our favourites. She’s also worked with prominent musicians in the hyperpop scene such as the incredible (and Scottish!) SOPHIE.

The track itself is a chill and soulful r&b track which Cosha says was written to sound like the view of the Hollywood Hills at nighttime from a recording studio. The lyrics were penned after a strip club trip in Australia featuring, you guessed it - a lapdance from Asia, and were meant to ‘savour the moment’ (“Now it’s our last dance til they close this place / and I don’t wanna leave”). This was an instant favourite of all of ours at the music team and we hope you love it as much as we do!
